Recordings and other stuff

Dang, has it been awhile since I updated my blog? Gee, time does fly when changing diapers! hahaha PLUS, not having a phone line working kinda stopped me from posting stuff. PLDT sucks! Aite..enough anger for today.. :)

OH, East 237 Studio Update: We are finally open and have been recording!!! Woohoo! Surprising, since we’re not doing any kind of advertising yet. Yeah, just simple word of mouth. One of the latest recordings was from a band called Parola. They recorded a cover tune Ultimate (by Lindsay Lohan..ugh) and Dedma, an original they wrote. Parola’s a pretty good band. Clean, pop-rock style. Very catchy way of playing. Parola_records2_355It was a learning experience for me too to record them since it was the first time I had recorded anyone with LIVE drums! Yeah, I often just used MIDI drums for my recordings. But since they were on a time constraint, I bit the bullet and just went with the live drums. Wasn’t as difficult as I imagined it would be. hehe  Hopefully, they liked the mixdown I did for them. Now, we just need more customers to come and record! Hehe

Jerald update: My baby giggles now. SO adorable. I wish you guys can hear him in person; just so cute!No10 Still has no hair though. hahaha

Other fun facts about Jerald:

  • This boy can eat. 4 fl. oz. just flies by with this boy. He leaves a trail of empty baby bottles behind.
  • He can fit into 6 mos. old clothes. Must be the crazy vitamins he’s taking. He might become taller than Yao Ming.
  • He says "Meh-ngeh" when asking for milk. The funny thing is that "Penge (Peh-ngeh)" is the Tagalog word for "Give me."
  • Jerald has been able to put weight on his legs. Yup. He even kicks hard. Good thing he only kicks the keyboard when I’m typing. hehe
  • Damn brat loves attention! If you don’t, he cries! :)
  • OH, he giggles now! (oh wait, I told you guys that already.) Where’s the "delete" button..(hopefully, I won’t press the "Send" button acciden

Observations

Don’t worry about these observations, they’re just the observations of someone who hasn’t slept for weeks. The scary thing is these are true observations! haha

  • There is a Chinese cable channel here called Broadway in the Philippines that shows tons of movies 24/7, unedited, but subtitled in Chinese. The cool thing is that there are no commercials or previews of what movie’s gonna be on. It’s like some billionaire Chinese guy just turned on his DVD player and started broadcasting. Movies range from Godfather, Lords of the Ring, Oceans 12, to House of Wax 2005 (yeah, the Paris Hilton stinker.) Anyway, I think they don’t have the "expressed written consent" to broadcast these movies. Why am I sure about that? Because on one occassion, there was this message that flashed across the screen: "This DVD is for promotional purposes only." NOW, I ask you, if this were an official channel, wouldn’t they have "official" movies, not a promotional copy? Hmm… maybe that’s why I sometimes see "Play" on the screens at the beginning. hehe
  • TV announcers here puts the wrong emPHAsis on the wrong syLABbles all the time.
  • Frodo was in "Deep Impact."
  • Godfather 3 still sucks.
  • Humidity rises before a big rain.
  • Conan O’Brien, very FUNNY guy. I’m so glad they show Late Night over here.
  • World Cup baby!!! (Still BORING, but hey, it’s sports!) hehehe

Things I now know about babies

As a newbie parent who never really took care of babies beforeDadasleep , it has been an eye-opener month. (Wow, is Jerald really goin to be one month?) Movies, books, advices have not prepared me for things that were ahead of me in this new path of my life called "parenthood." hehe Let me list what I’ve found out about my baby so far:

  • My baby can eat. A LOT. I mixed a million formulas already and that little bundle still cries out for more. I’m thinking of making a barrel-full of milk and just stick a hose straight from it. :D
  • Jerald can pee a LOT too. Where does it come from? See above.
  • Jerald pees, everywhere. He’s like a dog that has gone berserk to mark his territory, which happens to be our bed. Heck, he even marked both his parents. Eewww de toilet is our new scent.
  • Babies get heavy. Yup, you think you’re strong enough to carry them, but after half an hour of constantly rocking them in your arms, your arms sure don’t feel strong after a while…my wife and I both have the same "crooked-arm" look. We look like pirates. Yar, me maties.
  • Babies don’t sleep. Well, not in the adult sense of sleep. Jerald seems content to just nap and trick us to thinking we can sleep. Lo and behold, once you get your REM sleep goin, you hear the cries of my little bundle of joy and pee. Coffee!!
  • Yes, you will discover the magic of coffee. Instant, brewed, scraped of a shoe, you will drink it. LOTS of it.
  • Babies know where to kick. Yes. He will find your weak spots. Quickly. "Medic!"
  • Babies make good paperweight. hehe Nah, just put that in for shock purposes. I would never use my Jerald for paperweight. A doorstop yes… :D Evil dad.

Aite. That’s it for now. Little one is making noises. Probably needs his milk soon. I really should get that hose…KIDDING!!! (sheesh.)

Later folks!

Gifts From CA

Giftsfromca2We’re sure am lucky to have family in CA. Why? Because they send stuff for my baby boy! :) Dang. Nice stuff for little Jerald too. Jerald’s Auntie Maricar bought him lots of clothes, a book and a baby sling! Grandma and Grandpa sent him a stroller, car seat and a crib! Just too cool. I just wish that they were close to home so that they get to see him more often. I’m pretty sure my mom/dad/sis would visit often. Heck, I’ll probably visit them often too, money-permitting. hehe

Anyway, more pics at: http://photos.yahoo.com/jgwebdude429

A Baby (MINE!) is Born!

Awake See the cute baby in the picture? Yup, that’s my son, Jerald Cuyler. Before anyone bastardizes my son’s second name, it’s pronounced "Kyler." Yeah, we could have spelled it Kyler, but that would have been too plain. I’m already Jose and I know how it feels to have a very common name. hahaha Anyway, this boy of mine is the most adorable baby, EVER. Yes, I’m biased, but that’s my prerogative. I’m a proud Papa! :) Here are some details about little Jerald:

: Born on May 30, 1am

: Weighed in at 5.10 lbs (before you think he’s tiny, I was 5.4 lbs!)

: 46 cms. (you guys do the conversion..too sleepy to do math.) haha

Both Mom Carie and baby are doing well. Just need to tan him a little, since he got yellow skin. I blame my wife’s genes, since she’s a quarter Chinese. haha

Now, off to make more milk for baby! Ichiro

Rough April!

So that you guys don’t think it’s all peaches here, I just wanted to post something negative that happened this month. First of all, my brother, on HIS vacation here in PI, got sick with Dengue fever. It’s like malaria, you get it by getting bit by an infected mosquito. The fact that Jerome was supposed to help me set up the studio didn’t cross my mind because he had to be hospitalized! Yup, it was that serious! Good thing was that our home therapy was actually really helpful. Gatorade and Tylenol! Magic! hehe Well, the hospital was helpful in providing him with IV, so even though he couldn’t eat, at least he had nutrients coming in his body. Anyway, he was able to make his rescheduled flight on Good Friday.

However, it doesn’t end there.

When I was trying to discharge my bro, the stupid cashier wouldn’t let us go. Why? Because I couldn’t pay the bill in pesos. All the while, I thought I could pay with my credit card, but she said there was only one bank they accept. OK. But, when I pointed out that it was Holy Thursday and there weren’t any banks open to convert my dollars to pesos, can they accept part of the payment in pesos and the rest in dollars? Her answer, no. I pointed out to her that it’d be impossible for me to get that amount of money without the banks being open! You know what she said? She said it was my problem. Good thing I didn’t throw a rock through her window. Anyway, I was able to get help from our Tita Lily and managed to get my bro out of that stupid hospital. I did glare at the dumb cashier and when she gave me the receipt, I slammed my dollars on her window (yeah, like Good Will Hunting!) hehe and said "I could’ve paid you easily!" I was SO mad.

I did go back Monday to speak to her boss. She was trying to explain to him that I probably didn’t understand her and that I didn’t hear those exact words. Huh? I told them my job used to involve remembering details during meetings! DUH. I also told her, she shouldn’t abuse her position of authority. Good thing her boss apologized, else I’d spoken to his boss. hahaha Yeah, troublemaker.

I wished that would’ve been it, but only a few days ago, another incident in HappyLand! This time, more dangerous than just a dumb cashier.

Last April 18, I told this guy, who is a Barangay Tanod (a deputized law enforcer), that he was in a "no parking" area. He didn’t react positively and immediately asked if I owned the road and kept glaring at me. Eventually, he was asking me to step outside. My employee came to intervene and told him to back off. This eventually made him angrier and resulted in him challenging us to come out. Since I knew I was in the right if we stayed within my residence, I forbid my employee to go out. This incensed this moron even more. He even called his other Barangay Tanod ‘friends’ to stop in front of my house and wanted them to bring me to Barangay Tanod Central. Dumbass Knowing they had no power to take me anywhere, I told the ones that approached my gate that is this how the Tanods act? Trying to intimidate homeowners? When the Tanods figured their colleague was in the wrong, they told him to go home. Anyway, even though I was pissed off, I was convinced by the people around me to file a complaint. Guess what? The next day, I got served with a complaint from the idiot! Imagine the NERVE of this dumbass. Good thing my uncle, who’s an attorney, was here. He and I went to Barangay Central and cleared everything up with the lead investigator. The lead investigator even said that it was a baseless complaint. Actually, when he read the complaint, it said that I forced the dumbass away from the parking area. That dood is big, how can I force him to do anything? So dumb.

The sad thing is that my security is forever shattered. Plus, that dumbass still tries to piss me off by parking at the "no parking" area. He even told their Chief Admin that he never parked in front of my house! Well, I have pictures that prove otherwise. HA! What an idiot. Anyway, here’s the picture of the bully: Dumbass2

He’s the one in the yellow tank top. I still can’t believe he told the investigator that I "forced" him to leave the parking area. Then, turn around and say he never parked in front of my house. What a dumbass.

Anyway, sorry guys. Just had to tell you folks the good/bad of life here.

About Baby and Studio Stuff

Its_a_boy Before anything else, I’m proud to announce that Carie and I are having a son! Yup, and I have this ultrasound pic to prove it! hehe I’m gonna be a proud papa. Hopefully, I’ll be in shape to teach him sports! (I can feel my back aching already.) haha

SetupOk, now for more studio updates: Guess what, my brother is currently here in the Philippines to help me set up the studio. Yup, flew all the way from Milpitas, California just to help me. Cool huh? Anyway, here’s Jerome setting up the studio.  Yup, he stayed up late the day he got here just to set it up. Am I a meanie or what? Making him work on his first day here in PI. hehe  Nah, he wanted to start right away. I guess he’s pretty excited about the studio as I am!

Well, here’s the result of all of Jerome’s hard work. We did a test run when my relatives came over to visit and they were excited to be our test subjects for our practice run. Here are pics of my cousins Aegie and Glen and their dad testing out our studio. We all had fun recording! :)

Aegie   Here’s my cousin Aegie singing. She was up first, so she suffered through all the heckling from her family. :) She did well though, since she has a very good singing voice. Watch out Regine! :)

Glen

Here’s my cousin Glen doin his version of "Unwell." Unlike Aegie, he was getting affected by the heckling. hahaha Anyway, when he relaxed, he did a very good take!

Titoambet

Heck, even my Tito Ambet (who’s also here on vacation) had fun recording. Here he is doin a take on his version of "Even Now".  It was a pretty cool take!

Water and Taho

Tubg You know what Americans take for granted, well besides their freedom of speech, freedom to vote…etc..It’s water. Clean water. I mean, in Milpitas, one can drink straight from the tap. Yes, it’ll taste kinda funny, but you can actually drink tap water. If you do that here in PI, you’ll likely get sick. Even though it’s chlorinated and all, there’s still a good chance a lot of of unhealthy stuff gets into your boday making it unsafe to drink the water. Why the longwinded intro? See the big blue 5 gallon container? Would you believe I used to carry that to our apartment on the fourth floor? Yup. No elevator. PLUS, I had to cross a busy street! Imagine Frogger and you’ll get the picture. Anyway, had to do it since clean water is a must if you need to drink. Good thing that since we moved, the water place is just across my house AND I don’t have to go to the fourth floor. :D

Taho OK, here’s a photo of "taho." A lot of you non-pinoys might not have been familiar with this drink. It’s made of tofu, ‘pearls’ and syrup. Usually, a guy passes by carrying two containers, one for the tofu, and one for the syrup and pearls (I think it’s tapioca.) Pinoys usually eat/drink this for breakfast or, a late morning snack. The whole mug only costs 5 pesos. (That’s a dime!) hehe Hey, can’t beat that right? Plus, delivered right in front of your door. You just have to wait for the guy yelling.."Ta-hooooo." hehe (and the guy usually just stops in front of my gate, because I’m a regular now.) haha

Here’s a pic of the front gate where he stops.  Front

(Dang. All this talk about food is making me hungry.) :D

Ramblin’s

OK, more ramblings from Jose. :)

Cereal See this cereal? Yup. The 99 pesos one? (that’s like 2 bucks.) Supposedly, it’s the same cereal that I enjoyed in Milpitas. Same name, same company. Same taste, you expect right? Wrong. It’s somewhat different. It tastes like a very ‘wheaty’ Clusters. Heck, the almonds are all small pieces too. It’s the same with Fruit Loops too. Same name and logo, but it tastes differently; has a cardboard after-taste.

Anyway, I won’t be complaining if there were choices here. But, since most folks eat ‘pan-de-sal’ for breakfast, I guess having lots of cereal choices is not a good business move for cereal makers. Plus, it’s so expensive to buy cereal AND milk. (Milk, btw, does taste the same. Plus, you can store milk longer; they’re processed through UHT…or Ultra High Temperature.) :) The only good cereal here is Koko Krunch, a chocolate flavored cereal. BUT I can’t eat this all the time! Ugh. Maybe I should just buy more ‘taho.’ (It’s a breakfast tofu drink.) Taho is good too. :D

Have I told you guys that it’s getting hot here? Hot AND humid? I thought I’d be used to it by now, but I guess the humidity went up one notch. I predict my brother’s gonna be staying inside with the AC on all the time. There goes my electric bill! hehe I’ll probably just drive him to the mall. Heck, maybe he can drive so he can appreciate how good we have it back in Milpitas. :)
